New Year, New Building Addition at East Middle School!

Students and staff at East Middle School were welcomed back to classes this month with new spaces to enhance their educational experience.

After more than a year of construction, work was completed on a two-story addition to the school. It will house two new classrooms, a library, cafeteria, space for elective programs and new administrative offices.

In addition to the new construction, the school’s existing building will see renovations too. The art wing, gym and auditorium will all be remodeled to modernize the space and make mechanical, electrical and plumbing updates. The remaining construction is expected to be finished before the start of the 2022-23 school year.

The new construction and remodeling help to improve the flow and functionality of the building with the goal of creating a space that meets the needs of students.

The improvements at East are funded by the Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST) grant and bond funding. In 2016, the Aurora Community approved a $300 million bond measure. The bond has allowed Aurora Public Schools to make building and technology improvements in every school in the district.

At APS, we believe all students must have equitable access to learning opportunities, technology and environments that support them in reaching their full potential.
